Helping Single Mothers End Generational Cycle’s of Poverty

Together we can make a difference.

It is estimated that 8% of all households globally are headed by a single parent. Of those households, 84% are headed by single mothers and these numbers are rising.

Between the challenges of juggling the unpaid work of raising children alone, the barriers they face in accessing decent work, the risks of multi-generational poverty and the exclusion and stigmatization from society, single mothers and their children are all too often over-represented among the poorest in our society.

We are on a mission to change that.

We are an International charitable organization focused on ending multi-generational poverty.

We partner with single mothers to provide them with spiritual, economic and social supports that enable them to fight poverty and become financially independent.

Our approach is grounded in the conviction that people living in vulnerable situations can be agents of change if they are empowered with the tools, skills, and hope they need to change their lives.

To do this, we design proven, scalable solutions that equip people with the support and confidence they need to achieve their potential.

Our leadership and team bring years of experience to bear on of the greatest challenges of our time.

  • We provide training in climate-smart agricultural techniques, animal rearing knowledge and raising poultry and seed capital.

  • We provide a platform for our single mothers to form groups and use table banking, as a group-based funding strategy to save collectively and borrow money from the group with immediate access

  • Through partnership with local churches and organizations, we provide access to spiritual, social and emotional support for those that have been stigmatized and marginalized within their communities

  • As a mother of 4, I am the bread winner for my family and I take care of my elderly parents who have recently been unwell. Typically, I depend on casual labor to earn a living, but since joining Neloshan and participating in the chicken project, I now own something of my own that can bring in more income and feed my family. Being a part of Neloshan is a heavenly blessing- Mary Wairimu, 47 years old

  • Before joining Neloshan, it was my dream to have 30 egg laying chickens to support my family. I now have 12 chickens in total which have enabled me to pay my grandchild's school fees with the income I received from the sale of my eggs- Gladys Wangu, 58 years old

  • I am a single mother of 4 with six additional dependants and I suffer from arthritis thus unable to work much outside my home to bring in an income and I only had one cow whose milk I used to sell, but it’s no longer productive. Receiving the 7 chickens has been one of the blessing that has changed my life in a few months. I now have 14 chicken and I have enough to sell and feed my family consistently- Joyce Njoki, 78 years
